BRSCC Formula 1600 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Welcome to the website of the British Racing & Sports Car Club’s Avon Tyres Formula 1600 Championship in association with REIS Insurance. Formula is the quintessential jewel in the crown of entry level motorsport and has become a worldwide phenomenon that is highly respected within the motorsport community. Tightly defined specifications and regulations that remain constant, coupled with restrictions on tuning mean that older cars remain competitive against much newer machinery.

The cars in this category of Formula are powered by the famous 1600cc Kent engine and there are different race classes for both new and older chassis. The Pre 90 class is for cars manufactured up to the end of 1989 while the Post 89 class caters for cars built from 1990 onwards. Within those categories there are further class divisions depending on the age of the car. Want to read more news? Click here.

EXCITING AND COMPETITIVE RACING

BRSCC Formula racing is tough, close and very cost effective, and for over 4 decades has proved to be the ideal training ground for young drivers looking to progress up the motorsport career ladder. A multitude of internationally renowned drivers have used Formula as a vital rung on the ladder of success including many of the current F1 grid and the 2009 World Champion Jenson Button is amongst their number. The BRSCC will again run the successful Northern Championship, which has rounds at Oulton Park & Anglesey with a double header ‘away day’ at Donington. New for 2011, to cater for drivers in the Midlands and the South, is the Formula Triple Crown which will have double headers at Silverstone, Donington and Brands Hatch.

Specified rounds in the Northern Championship and all Triple Crown races are designated as points scoring races for the Avon Tyres National Formula 1600 Championship. This format allows both career minded & 'club' drivers to enjoy their racing in a very competitive but friendly environment. To be part of this exciting championship contact Ian Smith or Matt Hawkins who co-ordinate the National and the Northern Divisions respectively.

17 NOV 2011 - NORTHERN FF1600 in 2012

The 2011 season for the Avon Tyres BRSCC Northern Formula Championship has seen excellent racing, grid sizes up from 2010 and a close, friendly atmosphere in the paddock. In order to build on the successes of this year, the 2012 championship will maintain the same overall structure for next season:

The class structure for Post 89 and Pre 90 cars will be maintained. Split grids will be run for both Post 89 and Pre 90 cars for all qualifying sessions and races. The championship will again centre around at Oulton Park and Anglesey, with the hugely popular "away" meeting at Donington Park being repeated in 2012. Thus the calendar will feature 8 events; 5 at Oulton Park, 2 at Anglesey and 1 at Donington Park.
Both single and double headers will feature at Oulton Park, and a double header at Donington Park. Again building on the successes of 2011, the first Anglesey event will be a triple header and the second one will be a double header. All rounds to count, less two. The grid for race two/three of the double/triple headers will be based either on the results of race one or on second fastest qualifying time. The method to be used will be confirmed in event Final Instructions. The provisional calendar of dates is expected to be released in the very near future, and will be circulated as soon as it is available.

Further details will be circulated by Northern Championship co-ordinator Matt Hawkins when available.
